歷史的暫時性
面對新富市場建築的保育,我們希望能在該建築的設計精神及建構的物性中,了
解他在現在的時間狀況中存在的必要條件。
Regarding the preservation of U-Market, our hope is to arrive at a understanding of its existence through the building design and its physical condition.
首先,以設計的精神來談。1935年就以形隨機能設計的新富市場,在馬蹄型的空間中提供了一如在公共廣場旁的栱廊巿集,中間的中庭(圖1)及在三米高度的雙窗提供了市場的通風採光。以雙攤位的尺寸及適宜的走道大小,加上從剖面上考慮市場的衞生環境需要,與強調通性的傳統建築非常不同(圖2)。把廣場市集轉化成一實體空間的新富市場建築,建構了一特別為市場活動機能設計的空間。在材料上,簡單的洗石子外牆的水平裝飾線與旁邊傳統的日式木造宿舍(圖3)的對比非常強烈。木造屋的空間也與市場完全不同。一強調生活的自然有機,一注意市場效率。牆及木窗只是應機能而產生的位置及尺寸,所以在材料上必須在維護及保養上有所反應。除了在三個入口的門口意向的強調,新富的材料特性是工業化的,同時在細節上用洗石子強調他之為公共場所的可親性。
U-Market, which is built in 1935, was a design based on Form follows Function. The horse shoe plan provides a loggia space typical to the one adjacent to public plaza. The 3 meters tall atrium void and stacked windows provide the required light and ventilation for the market. Designed to accommodate two stalls and comfortable walking space, also taking consideration of hygiene into sectional design, the market is strikingly different from a traditional market that is usually more permeable. Transforming market from an open space concept to a solid mass, U-market has developed a typology specifically for market activity. In terms of the materiality, the simple granolithic exterior contrasts with the adjacent traditional Japanese style wooden dormitory. The space within the dormitory is also completely different, that one focus on natural environment and the other focus of market efficiency. The shape of the wall and windows in U-market is designed based on market’s performance, hence its materiality need to consider future maintenance. Beside the three primary entrances, the overall materiality of U-market is industrial, while the granolithic detail remarks its openness to the public.
可惜在90年代寄生在這市場上及連外巷道的違建攤販合法化後,新富市場反而在層層包圍下反主為客的變成城市的荒屋。
Unfortunately, in the 90, the illegal vendors occupying space around the U-market was legitimized, transforming what used to be the center of the market into urban wasteland.
忠泰文教基金會在承租這古蹟後,希望以新富市場為基地,做為市場文化新舊世代交替的中心。
When Jut Foundation acquired this historical building, they envisioned it can become the hub where new and old generations of market culture meet.
第一個設計方案是由長谷川豪提出,他在現有建築的上方加建一薄膜帳篷(圖4)。可惜在台灣,薄膜面對周邊的違建在颱風的狀況下會有被零散的物件穿刺的疑慮。因此,忠泰在基於安全的問題上希望我們可以提出一在氣候條件下比較可以執行的方案。
The first conceptual designed was proposed by Go Hasegawa. He proposed to add a thin sheet of tent over the building. Unfortunately, surrounding by illegal buildings, the tent has a high chance to be scratched by the flying debris during typhoon. Hence, Jut foundation came to us for a design that will suit better for the weather condition in Taiwan.
基本上,在十年的使用期限內,設計必須要反應使用時間的暫時性,使用對象(co-share)的不確定性,使用機能在公共與私密上分區的相容可能,及面對古蹟保存下不能破壞或更改原建築的條件下如何處理新的機能設備或管綫的處理。
The new design calls for ephemeralness, reflecting both temporal timeline (just 10 years to rental period) and inconsistent user situation (co-sharing office space). It also needs to respond to the mixing of public and private space, as well as the issue of implementing new building equipment without destroying or modify the existing building condition.
設計分成兩個部分,原建築內的共享辦公空間及增建的公共厠所。
在量體上,設計尊重第一設計案的半月型,但是在原建物及新增量體中保留一如半開放市場的走道空間,可通風採光的軽屋頂下 (圖5),提供一新舊對照的中介空間。新公廁的存在時間,相對於舊建築內的暫時機能,反而是比較長久的,所以選擇了和洗石子顏色相近的清水混凝土,以比較相容的方式並存。清水混凝土的建築也比較可以表達半月量體直切的形式。(圖6)
通往二樓的樓梯是在這半月量體中挖出的一個橢圓中很軽的置入一薄的鋼梯,掛在細條切木模板澆灌的混凝土面上。(圖7)
舊建築物中的功能包括了共享辦公空間,文教基金會,數學廚房,演講室,展覽館,會議室及咖啡廳。
On the basis of the design, respect for the first design of the half-moon type, but in the original building and the new volume to retain as half open market walkway space, ventilated roof (Figure 5), to provide a new Control of the intermediary space. The staircase leading to the second floor is a thin steel ladder that is dug in an oval in this half-length body and hangs on the concrete surface where the strip is cut. (Figure 7)
The functions of the old buildings include shared office space, cultural and educational foundation, mathematical kitchen, lecture room, exhibition hall, conference room and coffee shop.
面對這空間暫時性及不確定性的命運,在歷史的痕跡下,介入新舊交替的空間的介面必須是即時的。在即時的現象中,希望這反映當代狀況的即時性來對襯托原建築的歷史性。因為這歷史性的在,不是視覺的,因為這建築本身沒有承載明示的文化象徵,所以,他的歷史性是必須經由感知及功能性的變證才能了解。
